Gay Men Read Maps Like Women.

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

A new study suggest that gay men read maps and borrow similar strategies to finding locations. Women tend to think landmarks (turn left at the fire-station, go down till you see the next street after the party store, make a right, look for the Oak tree) while men think more in terms of actual directions and distances. (2.3 miles till you find Yorkshire St., turn Left. 0.8 miles down is Washington Blvd., House 346217) It seems that Gay and Lesbians tend to use techniques of the opposite sex more than their straight counterparts. I guess this means that only gay guys will stop for directions. (Source: New Scientist)

If anyone wants to buy us stuff, we’ve registered @ Amazon. It’s just a preliminary list so far. We’ll add more later.

Gotta give them credit.

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005

I have to give them credit. My hosting company, Zenjohost, cut off my service because their last two attempts to get money out of me (only $7/mo) failed. I don’t really blame them… I blame my bank. I updated my address with Standard Federal, yet they insisted on sending my new card to my old address. Had they sent me the card on time, none of this would have happened.

So, I just made a few major changes to my site, refresh, see that all of my pages are breaking, fix something, refresh, cannot find server. I go to paypal, put in my Comerica account, send them an email… nothing. I come home for lunch, send the same email through the propper channels, not even 5 minutes later my site is back up and running.

I never got that quick of a response from Global Internet Solutions.

CSS and IE7

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Recently, Microsoft announced that they will be releasing IE7 earlier than expected. It seems that the ever-increasing number of Firefox users has really started to make Bill sweat. I see this as a good thing. Now is the chance for Microsoft to reclaim some of it’s name. Originally, it was going to be Longhorn only, but they have decided to open it up to users of XP-SP2. It does nothing for the many people not using XP, but it’s a start.

Blogging for Baby

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Recently, Eric Meyer wrote a post that I have to admit that kinda struck a nerve. He linked to a NYT article. (Bugmenot required) The article talks about the increase in “baby blogs” (blogs about pregnancy and parenthood).

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

I just installed Eric Meyer’s WP-Gateway plugin. You must now answer a random question to post comments to my blog. Let’s hope this helps fight the comment spam.

Save Beatallica

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

Everything was fine until Boing-Boing posted a link to the website of Beatallica. The band makes parody songs of the Beatles mixed with Metallica. As soon as everyone followed the link, (myself included) Sony got wise to the small cover band and slapped them with a C&D letter. (via Boing-Boing)

Now the “Beatallibangers” have begun to fight back, (in the just about the only way they really can,) they started an online petition! Go give them a signiture and help them in their fight to prove that their music constitutes as parody, thus protected under American copywrite law. (again, via Boing-Boing)

“In bed” meme

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

If you woke up and I was in bed with you, and your hair was on fire, what would be your first thought?

(Now post this in your LJ and find out what mine would be)

Answer away.

This is a test.

This is a test to see if Livejournal is able to interpret the <lj-cut> tag in syndicated posts. If this works, the pseudo-latin below will be hidden by a cut link.

Pagan Holidays and Gender Roles

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

We just got back from Garden City Café not too long ago. I didn’t intend on going to Garden City Café when I left. (I almost never intend on going there.) We wanted to go to Cole’s. We hadn’t been to Cole’s in quite some time. It’s far away, but I like it there. We were both hungry, and didn’t mind the drive. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was closed. I don’t know why they weren’t open. It’s not Sunday. It’s Monday. Unless they were closed for Valentine’s Day.

If anyone has any of their other songs, please contact me, and I’ll be more than happy to post them.

Do they really expect me to believe that the facilities are now automatically generating signs, laminating them, and posting them on the wall? If they are, I think we may need an exorcist in here.

A change of spam

Sunday, February 13th, 2005

Gone are the days of the endless flood of comment spam about online poker. Bring forth the spam about loans.

A note on pictures.

Saturday, February 12th, 2005

Recently, the subject of pictures was brought to my attention again. In my previous implementation of the Mycyclopedia project, I included pictures. Each Person had a list of picture node, with one of two attributes, depending on which version it was from.

Site Updates - post during lunch

Thursday, February 10th, 2005

Amanda has the car right now, so I’m stuck here at work for my lunch break. I thought about walking up to Subway again, but instead I just got a chicken sandwich out of the vending machine. It wasn’t that good, but I guess it will do. I still have a little bit of time before I have to punch back in, so I want to see how much i can get written in that given time period.
